Mestre Bigodinho

It is with great sadness that we need to share the news that Mestre Bigodinho passed away this 5th of April in his daughter's house in Santo Amaro.

Reinaldo Santana, known as Mestre Bigodinho, was born in Santo Amaro, Bahia, on the 13th of September 1933 and started his trajectory in Capoeira Angola in 1950 with Mestre Waldemar Rodrigues da Paixão (Waldemar da Liberdade).

As for other great Mestres that contributed to the maintaining of the Afro-Brazilian culture and of Capoeira Angola at times when this required a big challenge, Mestre Bigodinho died in economic restrains. Many years has passed since Mestre Pastinha's death but the situation of many elder Mestres hasn't changed and the question of how to support them is still open.

With him we lost another guardian of the traditional knowledge of Capoeira Angola.
